I missed the beginning of the sales here in London as we spent the first few weeks of January in France. A lot of the sizes are sold out however I thought it would be a good idea to check out a few local boutiques to stock up with a some wardrobe staples. My basic strategy for buying in the sales is to keep it simple and classic. Look for the basics in neutral colours. Avoid anything that looks too "this season" and will date really quickly, same with any "very current colours". If possible buy items that you can wear now and continue to wear into the Spring until the weather really hots up (seems a very distant dream sitting here typing as the snow flakes fall). If you can find your size lingerie is always a good bet. I like to be a bit adventurous and buy some unusual colours that I would not probably be willing to pay full price for.
Just a few touches can really give your wardrobe a lift.

Above is how I would adapt some of the pieces to form a classic capsule wardrobe. I already have a similar grey jacket and black flats.

Love the view from the terrace!! I really like the bag...I do not currently have a black bag...I usually use my bag to pop a color. But, now I am thinking that maybe I need a black one!!
I'm very happy because I just managed to get a very nice denim skirt from Stella McCartney online at TK Maxx, reduced by £270! Been looking for some time.

I've just bought a black Jil Sander dress half-price in the on-line sale, which I'm delighted with; it's such a classic. But I have been thinking recently about some red lingerie ...
What a view ; what is it that you see in the background ?
The view is the valley just below our village. Without the snow you would normally be able to see the vineyards. Just to the left of the hills in the distance is St. Tropez.
What lovely choices you have made. It's snowing here in Haddonfield, NJ, USA, as I write this.
Neutrals are always the way to go, with an appropriate pop of color near the face, bien sûr, for those of us "of a certain age."
I have read your great blog several times and just signed up for email delivery. I would love it if you guest blogged for me sometime to share some of the wonderful wisdom you have gathered. Perhaps you could recycle something you have already written?
Thank you Chic At Any Age.
